Nov 05, 2012 That fixture is only for sharpening the end of the end mill. It is an attachment for a surface grinder. The flutes require a fixture that allows the end mill to twist along the spiral edge of the flutes, with a small finger tracing the helix. There are also two angles involved there as well.

Dec 05, 2007 The ends of end mills, even multi-fluted end mills, can be successfully ground back by hand, although it's a bit of a struggle to get all the teeth cutting in a common plane without a cutter grinder. That shouldn't prevent you from using a small square and some carefully applied grinding to rebuild the end of the cutter.

Mar 25, 2021 Also, I messed up and gashed the end of my endmill today on the dremel sharpener trying something new. Usually I use the side of the cutoff wheel (not meant to be used for usual cutting operations) but I used the front of the wheel (actual supposed cutting surface) and made a gouge in the end. Jul 01, 2019 I also have a cheap fixture for sharpening the ends of end mills on my surface grinder with a regular wheel. Between the two devices I can sharpen both the ends and sides quite well. I have a little experience with CNC mills and I think with the proper tool offset value they work fine.

Feb 21, 2016 I have seen someone mount a normal air die grinder on a lathe cross slide. End mill in the chuck, position the grinder such that a cutoff wheel will give relief to the end cutting edge due to the wheel radius. In fact, in this case, the guy indexed the end mill by eye, but one could use some other method to index the tool more accurately.
